“Universal” usually refers to common cartridge dimensions or housing formats, not compatibility with every filtration system. Always verify cartridge length, diameter, housing specifications, media, and system requirements.
Lower micron ratings capture smaller particles, while higher ratings are more suitable for coarse sediment and may maintain flow longer in heavily sedimented water. The right rating depends on water quality and filtration stage.
Sediment filters primarily capture physical particles such as sand, silt, dirt, and rust. Carbon filters are mainly used for chlorine, taste, odor, and certain chemical compounds depending on the media.
Polypropylene and string-wound filters commonly provide depth filtration, while pleated cartridges provide a large surface area for capturing sediment. Their dirt-holding capacity, flow, and available micron ratings vary by design.
GAC filters contain loose granular activated carbon, while carbon block filters use compressed carbon media. Both are used for carbon filtration, but their flow characteristics and contaminant-reduction performance can differ.
Follow the cartridge's rated service interval or capacity. Reduced flow, pressure drop, visible sediment loading, or changes in taste and odor can also indicate that replacement is due.
A cartridge may physically fit if the dimensions and housing are compatible, but sediment and carbon filters perform different functions. Change filter media only when it matches your water-treatment goal and system requirements.
